'Marrakesh Express', their first hit single in 1969 was originally written by Graham Nash for his previous band, the Hollies.
In 1970, Jerry Garcia agreed to play pedal steel on 'Teach Your Children'if the trio would teach the Grateful Dead how to sing harmony.
'Long Time Gone' was written in response to the 1968 assassination of Robert Kennedy.
Joni Mitchell heard about 'Woodstock' from boyfriend Graham Nash, who was there with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - it was only their second performance. She wrote the song, the trio electrified it, and made it a hit in 1970.
Neil Young wrote 'Ohio' after the National Guard fired on protesting students at Kent State University.
Stephen Stills wrote 'Suite: Judy Blue Eyes' for his girlfriend Judy Collins and the song served as a great introduction to the trio's classic debut album.
