THE RICH GET RICH BUT THE POOR GET POORER
OUT BACK...HAVING A SMOKE
This is only our opinion, but it's high time somebody said something.
THE ISSUE: The rich get rich but the poor get poorer. The Clark estate down on East Beach just past the boathouse was deeded by the eccentric Huguette Clark to Lori Ann Sellers on a page Ms. Clark tore out of the book she was reading at the time. Sellers claims the old lady took a liking to her during a chance encounter back in 1985 and wrote "Cabrillo mansion yours!" on the page, signed it, and gave it to her.
Now we've all tried to sneak a peek at the Clark estate overlooking the ocean on the end of Cabrillo Blvd. I mean, a $100 million abandoned mansion in a town full of lesser mansions arouses curiosity. When Huguette Clark died in 2011 in New York, Sellers went to court to claim her prize. "Whoa," said the judge. "This isn't a proper deed. It's just a scrap of paper. It's thirty years old in the bargain." Sellers didn't get the Clark estate.
OUR OPINION: We would have given it to her. Poor people deserve to get lucky once in a while. Those Clarks didn't need another estate. They have estates all over the place. They never even slept in this one. Let Lori Ann have it, we say. She sure could use an estate.

TWO SANTA BARBARA COUNTY MEN FACE FELONY CHARGES
THE ISSUE: Two Santa Barbara County men face felony charges of conspiracy and grand theft after allegedly stealing live rock crabs and other species from fellow commercial fishermen.
OUR OPINION: That's disgusting! Where's the love? Fellow fisherman stealing from one another? Here, out back in the alley, we smoke with these guys, swap stories, and complain about life together. They are good guys who would never steal from anyone, especially fellow fisherman.
The accused claim that the crabs they stole were theirs in the first place. The fishermen they stole them from, had stolen the crabs from them. What??? Are all fishermen thieves? Fishermen stealing from fishermen stealing from fishermen?
We love the fishermen here in Santa Barbara harbor. We don't know what's going on, but it couldn't be our fishermen. It must be somebody else's fishermen.
